A vision for free, global (online) education

It's amazing when we find people that are thinking like us .While I was searching for a Topic for the blog I found videos in a website called TED . TED stands for Technology Entertainment and Design .An annual conference in Monterey has grown to a global community focusing on exchanging and spreading ideas.That’s what I was thinking of for the last days .While I was working on my research project I couldn't find enough information about it and I knew am away from that because our libraries has limited access to specific journals which doesn't help us most of the times .One of the ways is purchasing a book online cause books at the library are really old or registering in a website paying annual amount of money each year to get the information we need .The idea of Richard Baraniuk would solve lots of our educational problems in many ways . Richard is electrical engineer and as he was teaching he faced lots of things that made him get to this idea .This is a hope for many people nowadays every where, the free global online education. Starting by sharing information with less price or for free. First he gave an example of LP records that has been replaced with the new digitized records like CDs and MP3s , how it has been improved and he tried to think about education in a similar way .He mentioned that publishing processes to be complicated, books are expensive and it creates a wall between the author and the people who are the ultimate users of it. The idea is to make digital books. Moreover, free access for information will be available for all people. Updating will be done for information every 25 second in other wards it will be an open source tool and content. All of this will speed up the educational process. Connexion is one of the projects related to this topic. Also, there is a community of engineers professors from Cambridge ,are trying to make a massive super electronic text book that cover all areas of electrical engineering. The story has just started and all the ideas he made was presented in the presentation so I don't want to spoil the joy of watching it .It's a dream for me that I hope to come true in our university system .As a student the difficulties was huge during the 3 years I was studying and I noticed lots of missing things in our studies and lots of system mistakes that we hope one day that it would change. This video was the one I liked the most cause it has a noble aim .An aim of changing the world.

Well, what a magnificent idea! to digitalize our educational curriculums and make them free for others in different parts of our world. I think this is a positive side of the technology usages which will help us as students and as teachers in future. I agree with you, sometimes we need to have books or journals that help us in our research papers and we can’t find theme because of the limitation on our libraries access to some of important academic resources and that really cause frustration for us. In addition, I often return to academic websites to know more about a lesson in my book that I didn’t understand or I didn’t get the information I need from. Moreover, that conference lights a new idea or goal in mind which is designing a web page not only for my students but also for all students and teachers around the world. I remember that I studied in my educational technology course about a curriculum page which is a teacher -created document that contains hyperlinks to teacher-selected websites that assist in teaching contact –specific curriculum objectives. This page help certain group of students on a cretin educational level but what if we make it for others benefits as well as share it with other teachers around the world or make it as a free information access for other students? In my opinion that well extend our world knowledge more and more. However, that noble idea will not be concrete until we find the support from our government and the assist from our universities or schools academic staff as well as teachers and students because the idea of free, global (online) education need planning , supervision , and application. At the end, free global online education will fill in the gap of illiteracy in our world because it gives the freedom of learning for different people wherever they are. Students in poor countries they will not need expansive books in their libraries any more but they will need computer lap with internet line and a free access to online Educational resources.
With all of my respect;

First thanks for your comment and I apologize for the late reply. I agree with you ,we all need to take part in that .Now the whole subject is just an idea .And it needs support to come up to the reality world .The start might be hard but we all know that the way of 1000 mile starts with a step .The first step was the idea and the fruits of this noble idea will come later. Not only we are going to be the only ones who benefit from that, but also all the people wither they are students or teachers all over the world. In other wards every one that has the passion to learn.
